09/11 - Rickson coordinates the rules of Super Challenge
While there is no final decision as for his return to the rings, Rickson Gracie decided to accept the challenge of coordinating the part referring to the rules in Super Challenge Grappling. The promoter of the event, Mr. Paulo Vasconcellos, explains that Rickson’s participation was crucial to the establishment of the exclusive rules for the event.
“We talked about the necessity of stimulating the fighters to fight ahead and we work to make it possible”, assures Mr. Paulo. In his first official announcement as that of the arbiters’ coordinator, Rickson said that Super Challenge would present a ground fight, the glamour and spectacular show of Mixed Martial Arts.
“Mr. Paulo is a big friend of mine and I am content to be collaborating for this nice project, Super Challenge Grappling.
What we changed in the rules was diminishing the advantage points and increasing the number of points for the fighters that put their opponents in the real submission position. For example the throw is worth one point, a back position is worth two points, but a well applied submission, even when the opponent managed to escape, is worth three points. Due to all this we will offer to our audience a beautiful show and stimulate the fighters to fight for the real objective that will define the fight in stead of advantages administration”, explains Rickson.
Super Challenge Grappling is taking place on December 8 in Athletico Paulistano Club, in Sao Paulo. Among the announced names of the fighters are World Grappling Champion Jeff Monson, ADCC 2007 Openweight Champion Robert Drysdale as well as ADCC 2007 Champions Fabrício Werdum and Demian Maia, Tarsys Humphreys and Jiu-Jitsu and Submission phenomenon Ronaldo Jacaré.
