06/11 - Marcelinho Garcia one step away from Super Challenge
Super Challenge Grappling organizers are doing their best to promote the greatest openweight Submission event of the history. For this purpose the top national and world fighters are being hired. Marcelinho Garcia, an ADCC tri champion in 76 kg division and ADCC 2007 openweight finalist is the next fighter to be hired. Having been absent from Mixed Martial Arts until the end of the year due to the cut he suffered in his debut fight in K-1 Heroes event, Marcelinho is seriously considering the possibility of participating in the competition. According to his coach, Fabio Gurgel, the tournament will make it possible for the fighter to keep himself in the competition rhythm while he is expecting his next tournament appointments for the next year. In reality it will be an opportunity for Marcelinho to try to take the openweight title he had lost in the end of the last ADCC.
“After MTL to be held on the 10th of this month I will be flying to New York to have a conversation regarding his participation in the event”, reveals Fábio Gurgel, warning that everything will depend on the process of his wound healing. The fighter suffered a cut in K-1 Heroes event and had 100 internal and external stitches. If Marcelinho enters the card he will have to face tough adversaries who have already been confirmed. They are ADCC 2007 champion Demiam Maia (87 kg division), Fabrício Werdum (above 99kg division) and Robert Drysdale (openweight). Jeff Monson, Delson Pé de Chumbo, Tarsys Humphreys and Ronaldo Jacaré have also been confirmed on the card.
Super Challenge Grappling is taking place on December 8th, in a luxurious club Athletico Paulistano, in São Paulo. A total of 16 fighters will compete for the openweight Submission title as well as for the award of USD 15,000.
